Every Thursday for the last term of school, the senior classes in St Joseph’s have tennis lessons. Tennis coaching takes place on our school astro pitch, in the Phoenix centre and sometimes Cloughvalley Park when the weather is good. Tennis is great fun and some of the students like it so much that they also go to tennis coaching after school. We learn how to rally with our partners, score points and we also play a game called ‘king of the court’. our coach Gus supplies the tennis balls and rackets and will organise matches for us when the training is complete
On the 24th of April 2016 the boys of St Joseph’s BNS celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation in St Joseph’s Church in Carrickmacross. Bishop Liam McDaid was there to say mass and confirm the children, along with the priests of our parish. There were over a hundred children to be confirmed and everyone had a great day. The church was packed with friends and family there to share in our special day and it was a day that the boys in our school will never forget.
On the 15th of March, our school held our national flag raising ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the 1916 rising. The tricolour was raised by Mr Eugene O’Gorman – the Chairperson of the school’s Board of Management – at 12.04pm. Two students from sixth class read aloud the original proclamation followed by our school’s new proclamation for their generation. This was written by Rang a Sé and expresses their hopes and dreams for Ireland’s future. The ceremony then concluded with a rousing rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann.
Today is World Book Day and our students will be doing lots of fun activities to celebrate. A Book Fair will visit our school after Easter and the boys will be given their WBD vouchers which can be used to get discounts on their favourite books or can be swapped for a limited selection of free books. Log on to the WBD website for lots of fun, games, videos and activities
The boys in our Communion class will make their First Confessions tonight in St Joseph’s Church at 7pm. A lot of hard work has gone into preparing the boys for the Sacrament of Penance and we wish them, their teachers Ms Jones and Ms Boylan and their families all the best. Go n-éirí libh go leir.
